This is an absolutely stunning antique French wine jug/water pitcher from South West France. This jug dates from around 1880 and is absolutely genuine.
It would have been used by the farmers in the vineyards here in south west France.
It is made from terracotta and the neck and inside are glazed. The neck is glazed so that any wine spilt does not soak into the terracotta.
It is in good condition for its age. Every defect is a part of its unique history and I have clearly shown any defects in the photos. Nothing of this age that was used is perfect and the imperfections are an important part of the jug. The lines are purely in the terracotta on the surface from when it was made and are not breakage cracks.
It measures approx. 28 cms (11") high.
