This is a gorgeous and rare 19th century half glazed mustard yellow confit pot. It is also fully glazed inside.
This pot from the mid 1800's and they are highly collectable. They are from the south west of France and were used for storing duck during the winter months when they were placed in the ground outside up to the glaze line. The cooked meat was encased in duck fat inside the pot. The ground acting as natural refrigeration.
This one, as with so many, wears the scars of its many years of use over a hundred years ago, a sign of true authenticity and makes it in so many ways so much more wonderful to own and look at than something quite perfect that never saw a day's work!
It measures 25.5cms/ 10.1 inches high
