This is an antique brass telescope made by Cary of London in the early to mid 1800's.
This is a seven draw telescope engraved “Cary, 181 Strand, London” on the first draw, and “Adjusting tube” on the second draw. Made of brass with a leather carrying case, it is the perfect antique pocket telescope. Overall length extended is 15.5″ (39cms). Closed it is 3.5″ (9cms) long. In its leather case it measures 4" (10cms) long and weighs approx 5ozs (140 grammes).
The Cary family operated throughout the nineteenth Century, mainly in the first 50 years, from various London bases, but the main office was at 181 Strand.
