We would really love for you to come and enjoy all that the Charente Maritime has to offer. Why not spend a week or two in our luxury gîte, or out of season a long or indeed a short weekend.
We are located just ten minutes south of Rochefort in a small village with a boulangerie a two minute walk away and a small local bar. We are just fifteen minutes from Marennes, the oyster capital of France and twenty minutes from the nearest beach. Royan, and the Atlantic coast are here for you to discover, dine on fine seafood, enjoy mile after mile of sandy beach. Spend a few hours in La Rochelle or visit the Atlantic Islands of Île d’Oléron, Île de Ré, Île d’Aix and Île Madam. Drive inland to historic Saintes or visit one of the many local Châteaux. They are all within an easy drive of around half an hour.
We have done everything to make sure it is as comfortable as possible whilst still retaining plenty of traditional French charm.
There is a large sitting room/dining room with French windows opening up onto the terrace and garden.
There is also a retractable awning which means you can eat outdoors even when the sun is blazing down and be in the shade.
The kitchen we have purposefully kept as traditional as possible, using a slab of vintage marble for the worktop and an armoire to house all the essential items that are necessary but best left out of sight. However, we have included everything we think you will need so that it is fully equipped.
The bedroom is small but very cosy with a large mirrored armoire so that all of your clothes and your suitcases can be put away during your stay. We have used memory foam pillows for your comfort and top quality cotton bed linen.
The bathroom is en suite and has French windows leading out to the private courtyard garden. There is a fully enclosed glass shower, traditional style hand basin and a separate loo.
The entire gîte has been furnished with a mixture of antique, vintage and modern pieces, each chosen to compliment the interior. Original artwork hangs on the walls along with vintage mirrors.
In the winter there are electric radiators in the kitchen and bedroom along with a heated towel rail in the bathroom. The sitting room is kept toasty warm with a Godin woodturning stove which will ensure you are always snug and cosy.
Whilst the gîte is separate and private from our own home it is in the same garden. You are very welcome to wander down and help yourself to whatever vegetables may be in season and enjoy cherries, figs and other fruits at various times of the year. You will also enjoy looking out towards our chicken garden and we always enjoying sharing our free range organic eggs with our guests.
We would love to share a glass of wine with you and talk about your day and offer any advice and help we can, but at the same time we respect your privacy. The only members of the family who seem incapable of doing this are our two Jack Russells, they are extremely sociable and are likely to wander into the gîte and sit at your feet outside whilst you eat.
Our above ground solar heated swimming pool is available for you to use whenever you wish during the summer months. It is shared with us and it tends to be rather a social place.
