Luxury Breaks

Why not indulge yourself with a sumptuous ‘foodie’ break and stay in our unique luxury cottage while we teach you all about FISH! Designed around your schedule, we recommend three nights as a minimum for your stay (you can also choose your days, of course), so you can really escape and immerse yourselves in a completely new experience. Our house is a home with food at its heart and a stay in our adjoining cottage is a must for anyone who shares our passion for real home-cooked dishes. Living so close to one of Europe’s shellfish regions (the town of Marennes is often called the Oyster Capital of the World) means we have access to all sorts of shellfish and plenty of delicious wetfish at our nearby fishing ports.

Our weekends, or any mid-week breaks, are based around fish and shellfish, those ingredients that often tend to make many home-chefs a little nervous. During your stay, we’ll visit local fish markets on either the coast or the nearby Île d’Oléron, and you will learn how to select and cook your choice of ingredients, from turbot to oysters, and from cuttlefish to whelks. You’ll also visit a bustling French street-market where you’ll choose your vegetables and other items for the dishes you’ll be cooking during your stay. Wherever possible, you will be cooking with organic produce, supplemented by locally sourced ingredients.

One night we will chauffeur you to a prearranged meal at a fantastic local restaurant (so you can enjoy the region’s wonderful wines), and during your stay there will also be the opportunity for a little wine-tasting at a local cave. If you visit in the next few weeks you’ll also enjoy wonderfully atmospheric Christmas markets and our open-air ice skating in Rochefort, named as one of the ten most beautiful festive ice-skating rinks in France. You don’t have to skate, it’s just as much fun to sit outside, muffled up against the cold and sip a mulled wine, watching and soaking up the atmosphere.

Our cottage is sprinkled with luxurious touches such as a cashmere hot-water bottle, fluffy bathrobes, scented candles and organic French soaps and toiletries. Of course we also have a roaring woodburner with plenty of logs for those winter nights to keep you cosy and warm.

The cottage sleeps two people in great comfort, making it the ideal break for a couple. Our breaks can be totally adapted to our guests’ wishes, making it the ultimate tailor-made weekend.
