This is an absolutely stunning antique Chapelle des Pots French wine jug/water pitcher from South West France. This jug dates from around 1880 and is absolutely genuine.
La Chapelle-des-Pots is a village renowned for its handmade pottery where potters make and have made ceramics for more than eight centuries using only local clay and always made by hand.
These Chapelle-des-Pots wine jugs are becoming extremely sought after and are highly collectable and it is very hard to find them in such good condition.
Please look carefully at the photos as I have tried to show any defects clearly. This is a genuine antique which has been used well for over a century. It was made as a functional farmhouse kitchen item not as an ornament and so any imperfections add to the history and tell a story.
It would have been used by the farmers in the vineyards here in south west France.
It is made from terracotta and glazed in green.
It is in remarkable condition for its age. Every defect is a part of its unique history and I have clearly shown any defects in the photos. Nothing of this age that was used is perfect and the imperfections are an important part of the jug.
It measures 29cms high approx.
